New Zealand player Tim Payne scored an impressive goal in his debut with Paraguayan club Olimpia. The defender netted in the 5-0 victory over Rubio Ñu, during the third round of the Clausura tournament on Sunday.
Olimpia's coach, Pablo 'Vitamina' Sánchez, brought Payne into play at the 69th minute of the second half. Twelve minutes later, the defender surprised with a powerful shot from outside the box to seal the victory for the 'Decano'.
After the match, 'Vitamina' Sánchez praised Tim's debut and spoke about the impact his arrival has had on Paraguayan football due to his worldwide recognition during the 2026 World Cup.
'It was a good moment for Tim to make his debut and for people to enjoy it, even with a goal. I understand there is excitement, an exaltation with Tim, worthy of a very popular type. These strange things that life and football have, welcome them', the coach said in a press conference.
'Tim is a good player and a very good person. That he can contribute to us with football and goals, obviously is very welcome,' concluded Olimpia's head coach.
