Paraguay's men's C15 futsal team will receive an official commendation from the Chamber of Deputies for their recent world title. Legislators approved a resolution to award the Arsenio Pastor Erico Martínez prize to the squad that won the II Itapúa World Championship 2026.

Deputy Rubén Roussillón, one of the initiative's promoters alongside Raúl Latorre, Hugo Meza and Rodrigo Gamarra, explained the distinction. "That it grants the Arsenio Pastor Erico Martínez prize, from the Honorable Chamber of Deputies, to the Paraguayan Men's C15 Futsal Team, for the undefeated champion title obtained in the II Itapúa World Championship - Paraguay 2026," he said.

A perfect run

The team coached by Juan Alcaraz achieved a historic campaign from 7 to 13 September. In the group stage, they beat Canada 4-3, Mexico 6-2 and Chile 4-0. In the knockout phase, they again defeated Chile 4-0 in the quarter-finals, overcame Brazil 4-3 in the semi-finals and were crowned against Colombia with a tight 3-2 win in the final, held at the Tupã Ra’y coliseum in Carmen del Paraná. It was six wins in six matches, securing Paraguay's first world title in the C15 category.

The award ceremony will take place at the start of an ordinary session of the Lower House. Each member of the squad will receive a medal, while plaques of recognition will go to the President of the World Futsal Association, Dr. Rolando Juan Alarcón Ríos; the President of the Paraguayan Futsal Federation, Abg. Juan Luis Gamarra; and head coach Juan Alcaraz.

This futsal success comes as the senior football national team prepares for its next challenge. The recent history shows a 2-2 draw in the last meeting between the two in November 2024. The senior team, which is in third place in the group with 4 points, will look to take all three points in their visit to Bolivia. Carlos Jara Saguier's team will face a Bolivia that arrives with 1 point and lost its last match 2-1 to Ecuador.
